Arabs: Saddam arrest ends Batthist regime

The secretary general of the Arab League Sunday described the arrest of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in Iraq as a complete end to the former regime.

Amr Mousa told journalists from the Arab League headquarters in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, that the capture of Saddam was an important event.

He added that it was a matter of time before the rest of the officials of the former regime are also arrested.

Mousa said the Iraqi people should have their say on the fate of the former leader in light of what was revealed after the collapse of the former regime, in terms of unacceptable and dangerous behavior.

He was referring to dozens of mass graves that were unearthed in the aftermath of the U.S. military invasion of Iraq that overthrew Saddam Hussein's rule, which lasted for about 30 years.
