The New York Yankees will add to their coaching staff by hiring two of their player-development staff members -- Dillon Lawson as hitting coach and Desi Druschel as assistant pitching coach -- according to multiple reports Friday.
The Yankees will promote Lawson from the position of minor league hitting coordinator and Druschel from minor league manager of pitch development, The Athletic and the New York Post reported.
The club has not announced the hires, and general manager Brian Cashman, citing MLB guidance on personnel changes, on Friday declined to comment on them to The Athletic.
"I feel like we are down the tracks with our major league coaching staff," Cashman told The Athletic. "We're dotting I's and crossing the T's."
Druschel will join pitching coach Matt Blake and bullpen coach Mike Harkey on the Yankees, and Lawson will have two assistant hitting coaches, The Athletic reported. The team did not renew the contracts of hitting coaches P.J. Pilittere and Marcus Thames after the 2021 season.
The Yankees are still looking for a first-base coach after Reggie Willits decided to leave the organization, according to the Post. The club hired former New York Mets manager Luis Rojas as its third-based coach last month.
The Yankees finished 92-70 last season and lost to the Boston Red Sox 6-2 in the American League wild-card game.
